Project Goal

The concept of brain simulation has attained significant popularity for detecting, treating, and preventing traumatic brain injuries. While the practice is common these days, you will hardly find any online platforms to analyze brain data for meaningful reports on the impacts and injuries.

It motivated a prominent interdisciplinary researcher to come up with a solution. The goal was to build a web-based Brain Simulation Research Platform with the ability to run computational brain simulations and predictions using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Solution

The purpose of this platform was to simulate head impacts and overpressures for analyzing brain strains. The software was meant for use by players, military personnel, and teams for performing comparisons, and alert team/unit personnel to certain head-loading conditions.

The first challenge we encountered was the lack of a single technology option to build a complicated platform like the one in question.

After a lot of brainstorming, we decided to go ahead with a unique mix of technologies like React JS, Redux, Node JS, Amazon S3, Lambda, and more to build this platform. Let’s go through some features to understand the capabilities of this state-of-the-art brain simulation platform.

✔️
Multiple User-specific Dashboards

The platform was meant for use by four different types of users, and it was crucial to provide a dashboard with relevant features/functionalities to each party. With this in mind, we built five different Dashboards for Platform Admin, institutions, teams, and players. The below image will help you with a glimpse of all these dashboards.

✔️
Personalized computer model for the users

The platform was capable of creating a personalized computer model for each user. The users need to log in to their dashboard and upload a selfie. Once done, the platform automatically creates a personalized computer model used to present the reports and findings of data gathered through sensors.

✔️
Ability to Upload and Compute Censor Data

As the data related to the brain is collected using censors, an option to upload this data or report to our simulation platform was the must-have feature. Considering the different file formats used by different sensors, we enabled the platform to import/analyze them irrespective of the file format.

✔️
Option to generate multiple report types

The platform was capable to generate multiple types of reports to facilitate a better understanding of the individual’s brain. The platform compares the various metrics to turn the sensor data into Meaningful Brain Injury Analysis. Below are some of the reports that the platform can generate for users.

  • Individual Head Acceleration Events
  • Angular Acceleration Comparision
  • Linear Acceleration Comparision
  • Brain Loading over Time
  • Skull Kinematics and Video Verification

✔️
Feature to Construct the Brain Models

The platform was purposed to show interactive reports to the users. To make this happen, we integrated functionality that enabled this platform to construct brain models to highlight the affected/injured sections of the user’s brain.

✔️
Option to Display Team Analytics

Apart from displaying the reports for individual users, the platform can generate combined reports for displaying analytics for the whole team in a combined report. It facilitates the respective team management to get the results for all players/teammates to know their head loading conditions.

✔️
Brain Strain Machine Learning Toolkit

We also integrated the Brain Strain Machine Learning toolkit to calculate the maximum strain for every element of the brain. The objective was to help the researchers to calculate and visualize the correlation between brain topology parameters and the symptom in question without prolonged training.

Final Words

These were some of the features of our custom Brain simulation platform. The client was impressed with our capabilities, and his solution has already started helping teams, and organizations to create brain modeling and approximate the individual’s response to brain injuries.

If you also wish to leverage Artificial intelligence and machine learning to build and offer such revolutionary platforms, let’s get in touch today and kickstart turning your vision into a real-world solution.
